FFT launch new training on delivering inclusive services to Gypsies and Travellers

Today, Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) has launched a new range of facilitated workshops designed to give your staff an improved understanding of the diverse experiences and histories of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people.

With over 25 years’ experience of working with individuals from Gypsy, Traveller and nomadic communities, our cultural awareness training will suit the needs of your organisation and provide your staff with knowledge to improve the delivery of inclusive services.

Our facilitated workshops can be booked to be delivered online or in person with three experienced team members for sessions between one and three hours. The course content will be tailored to the needs of your organisation and will outline the barriers which Gypsy, Traveller and nomadic individuals can face accessing services and inequalities experienced by Gypsies and Travellers across education, health, hate crime and accommodation.

You can find out more about the cultural awareness training packages here and if you would like to make an enquiry about booking a training session for your services, you can email our training team.

Our Digital learning package remains available through MeLearning. You can purchase the training here.

Speaking about the news, Billie Dolling, Training Development and Administration Officer at Friends, Families and Travellers said:

“We know that many service providers have a gap in knowledge when it comes to providing accessible services to Gypsy, Traveller and nomadic people. Our new workshops are designed with your organisation in mind, and will equip your staff with as much knowledge as possible to help your service become more inclusive.”

Reflecting on the launch, Michelle Gavin, Business Development Manager at Friends, Families and Travellers said:

“We are over the moon to be expanding our range of training available to local authorities, private and charity sector organisations. We know that there are many organisations seeking the knowledge to improve their relationships with Gypsies and Travellers and we are delighted to be able to share our experience of good practice and building positive work cultures.”

Speaking about the training, Chris McDonagh, Campaigns Officer at Friends, Families and Travellers said:

“These training workshops are a brilliant opportunity to help people who are willing to learn, and to understand the different needs and issues faced by these marginalised communities. The trainers are either part of or are closely connected to the Traveller and Gypsy communities and are perfectly placed to educate and help others see things from a first-hand perspective.”
