Having Somewhere to Live: A case study

Publication type: Guide, Resource Library

Author: Friends, Families and Travellers

Themes: Accommodation, Discrimination

An Irish Traveller woman approached us to help with finding her accommodation in a different area of the country. She was placed on site waiting lists but in the meantime her circumstances meant she needed to move as a matter of urgency. We negotiated with a private landlord and secured accommodation for the lady and her children. It is difficult for people on a low income to find a deposit or rent in advance, but the negotiation with the landlord ensured that the woman did not have to pay this as long as we set up a council tenancy support officer to help her maintain the tenancy.
