Our History

We began life as an informal support group working primarily with New Travellers but since those early days we have evolved into an organisation providing advice, advocacy, information and other services to all Gypsies and Travellers regardless of ethnicity, culture or background.

Early on, we worked with the Public Law Project on two landmark legal challenges that led to local authorities being required to make basic welfare inquiries before forcing families from a piece of land. As part of the Gypsy and Traveller Law Reform Coalition, we were shortlisted for the Human Rights Award in 2004.

Our aim is to end racism and discrimination against Gypsies, Travellers and Roma, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, culture or background, whether settled or mobile, and to protect the right to pursue a nomadic way of life.

We became a company (non-profit voluntary organisation) limited by guarantee in July 1999 (no. 3597515) and a registered charity in November 2005 (no. 1112326).
