Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month 2021

Every June since 2008, people from across the UK have celebrated Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month. Through celebration, education and raising awareness, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month helps to tackle prejudice, challenge myths and to amplify the voices of Gypsies, Roma and Travellers in wider society.

This year, we plan to mark Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month using the theme #MakeSomeSpace. For example, we’re asking:

  • Councils to make some space for Gypsies and Travellers to stop in their area
  • Teachers to make some space in their teaching time to focus on the histories, cultures or present realities of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people
  • People working in TV and the media to make some space in TV and film for authentic portrayals of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people
  • Allies to make some space in their days to educate themselves on Gypsy, Roma and Traveller histories and cultures and how to support Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people to uphold their rights

We would love if you would join with us in this! To make this as easy as possible, we’ve created materials to make it easy for you to participate.
