In
the West Midlands we have established a group of Traveller youngsters,
both English Gypsies and Irish Travellers, from all over the region,
who are all working on a Chrysalis Club 2000* project.
The students aged 13 – 15, are all working towards a Youth Award
qualification in their own schools, which are as far apart as
Wem in Shropshire to Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent.
They met for the first time at the headquarters of the West Midlands
Consortium Education Service for Travelling Children in Wolverhampton
on October 6th 2004 and have formed a club called Travellers United.
They intend to try and keep in touch with each other by email
and also visit each other’s schools and meet up again for outings
and trips.
